Upgrade to v7 with WordPress

We’ve worked hard to make the transition to v7 smooth and painless but there are a couple things to keep in mind as you jump into the latest and greatest Font Awesome.

In the doc below, we’ll cover how to upgrade when you’re using the official Font Awesome WordPress plugin.

If you’re using a Kit, all you need to do is change your Kit’s version setting to Latest 7.x from the Settings tab in your Kit. Or you can create a new Kit set to v7. Then return to the Font Awesome plugin settings in your WordPress admin area and refresh your Kit information (or select your new v7 Kit). Now you’ll be able to add icons from v7 into your project.

If you want to update any of the existing icons in your project to v7, you’ll need to manually swap those out since they are inserted as SVGs and won’t be automatically updated to the latest version.

Ready to make the jump to the latest and greatest? Go get a v7 Kit!

If you’d like to switch from the CDN to a Kit, complete these steps:

  • Head to your Kits and create a new Kit and set the version to “Latest 7.x”.
  • In your Font Awesome account settings, generate an API key for WordPress.
  • In your WordPress plugin settings, switch from using the CDN to a Kit.
  • Use your Font Awesome API key in the plugin settings to pull in your Kit information.
  • When your Kit information comes up, select the Kit you created and save your settings.

Now you will have access to all the new icons and features via your Kit, including custom icon uploads and automatic subsetting.
